The mission of the Guest House Resident Manager program is to provide self selected individuals the opportunity for placement as Resident Managers in a Safe Haven project. This program is done in collaboration with many partners including Milwaukee County Housing, Milwaukee County Behavioral Health Department and the American Red Cross.
The Guest House provides 220 hours of classroom education and field work which results in our previously homeless men providing resident management services to three safe haven locations in the Milwaukee area. Safe Havens provide transitional living to chronically mentally ill and homeless individuals. During a stay in the Safe Haven, a guest is stabilized through an incredible support system. The resident managers, educated by The Guest House, are the glue that holds the program together. They provide twenty-four hour day coverage. They interact with, monitor and support each guest. The Resident Managers are a reliable, enthusiastic and energetic component to the program.
The goals of the program include to:
Since 1999, over seventy men have successfully completed the Resident Manager Program and worked in a Milwaukee County Sate Haven. The Resident Manager program within the Safe Haven setting was the recipient of the 1999 Housing and Urban Development “Best Practice Award.”
